PRODUCT INFORMATION

Chem-skid
Chemical Resistant Epoxy Floor Surfacer (S2617)

Chem-skid is a flooring system designed to be applied over concrete or steel in severe industrial environments. This product cures to form a hard, tough and chemically resistant coating.

Chem-skid can be used with a grit additive to provide a textured, non-slip flooring which can be applied up to 1/8 thickness. High film build characteristics will provide a thick film with excellent abrasion resistance and can also be used to fill pitted concrete holes and voids.

Chem-skid is 100% volume solids which is compliant with all VOC (volatile organic compounds) regulations and since it contains no solvents it has no flash point.

Chemical Resistance (splash & spillage):
10% Sulfuric Acid no effect*
10% Phosphoric Acid no effect*
10% Hydrochloric Acid no effect*
10% Nitric Acid no effect*
10% Acetic Acid no effect*
10% Sodium Hydroxide no effect*
Water, oil, grease no effect*
*Some discoloration may occur, but coating will not soften or be removed.

Recommended Uses:

Battery Plants.... Pulp & Paper Mills.... Acid Plants.... Mining/Refining Plants.... Offshore Plants.... Chemical Spill Areas.... Chemical Processing Plants.....

Any other areas where chemicals attack concrete or where ease of cleaning or non-skid characteristics are needed.

Kit Description:

Technical Data

TYPE: Amine Cured Epoxy

COMPONENTS: 2

COLORS: Gray (S2617) / Special colors available with minimum 100 gallon order.

GLOSS: high

FLASH POINT: 155°F (68°C) activated

VOC: maximum 2.8 Ibs/gal (340 g/1) after thinning

SOLIDS BY VOLUME: 100%

RECOMMENDED FILM THICKNESS: For smooth surfaces, 25 mils. As a non-skid overlay, 1/8 inch

SPREADING RATE: Theoretical is 64 square feet per gallon for smooth surfaces. As a non-skid overlay, 13 square feet per gallon

SURFACE PREPARATION: CONCRETE--Surface shall be dry and free of dirt, grease, oil, curing compounds, release compounds or other contaminants. Chemical and for steam cleaning may be necessary to fully remove such contaminants. Following decontamination, the concrete surface should be blast cleaned to remove laitance and to provide an open surface to which the coating can adhere. The preferred method of blast cleaning is the use of self-contained centrifugal equipment such as a Blastrac. In some cases, acid etching with 10% Muriatic Acid may be used in lieu of blasting, but acid etched concrete must be properly neutralized, rinsed, dried, wire brushed and vacuumed to remove dust. Concrete must cure a minimum of 28 days prior to coating. STEEL--Surface must be free of dirt. grease, oil, moisture and other contaminants. For severe exposures, blast clean in accordance with SSPC-SP 10, Near White Blast Cleaning, to an average surface profile of 2.5-3.0 mils. For non-severe service, blast clean in accordance with SSPC-SP 6, Commercial Blast Cleaning, to an average profile of 2.5-3.0 mils.

MIXING: See application instructions below.

POT LIFE: Twenty minutes at 77°F (25°C). Chem-skid must be stored inside before application. If stored outside in the sun, material will become warm and shorten the pot life.

SHELF LIFE: 1 year @ 60-90°F (15-32°C)

APPLICATION: SMOOTH GLOSS FLOOR OVER CONCRETE: Using mechanical agitation, mix 1 gallon of Base Component (S2617) with 1 gallon of Activator Component (S2698) and add 1 quart of Thinner S6684 (xylene). Immediately pour this mixture onto the floor. Once the mixture is on floor, the working life is longer. With a roller, brush, squeegee or broom, spread a thin coat over the area at about 230 square feet per gallon. Allow this seal coat to dry. Mix another gallon of base and activator, DO NOT ADD THINNER, and apply at 90 square feet per gallon. On rough Floors spreading rate will be less than 90 feet. NON-SKID OVERLAY: Using mechanical agitation, mix 1 gallon of Base Component (S2617) with 1 gallon of Activator Component (S2698). DO NOT ADD THINNER. Immediately pour this mixture onto the floor and spread with a roller, brush, squeegee or broom at about 230 square feet per gallon. This serves as a primer/sealer. It is not necessary to wait for this coat to dry. Immediately mix another gallon of base and activator and pour into Grit Component (approximately 35 lbs. of grit in a 5 gallon container) and mix thoroughly. DO NOT ADD THINNER. Immediately pour onto floor and use a trowel to spread at 13 square feet per gallon. This will result in an overlay l/8 inch thick.

DRY TIME @ 77°F (25°C):
Light traffic.............. 5 hours
Normal service...... 16 hours

PRIMER: none

THINNING: See application instructions above.

CLEAN UP: Thinner S6684 (xylene)
